Pre-Surgical Care

All dogs and cats are carefully screened through pre-surgical bloodwork and a thorough physical exam prior to surgery. Pre-surgical bloodwork gives us important information about your pet’s kidney, liver and heart function to be sure your pet is healthy to receive anesthesia.

Anesthesia

We take all anesthetic cases very seriously. At Indian Creek Pet Hospital we utilize the safest, multi-modal approach that is individually created for each dog or cat. It includes injectable medications for sedation and pain management as well as gas anesthetic agents. The combination of pre-anesthetic assessment of your pet (including blood work), use of modern anesthetic agents, and the latest anesthetic monitoring equipment means that anesthesia is generally considered to be a very low risk for your pet.

When we place your dog or cat safely under general anesthesia, a breathing tube is inserted into the trachea (windpipe) to administer oxygen mixed with the anesthetic gas. As with people, an intravenous catheter is placed into your pet’s leg to infuse with fluids during the procedure. Once the procedure is completed and the anesthetic is turned off, oxygen will continue to be delivered to your pet until your pet wakes up and the tube is removed.

Pain Management

We believe in maximizing the comfort of your pet before, during and after your pet’s procedure. The pain management we use depends on the type of pet. For many pets, we use a multi-modal approach to pain management, meaning we layer small amounts of different drugs to minimize any pain that your pet might feel during or after the procedure. We administer lower doses of each individual drug so that your pet will experience fewer adverse side effects, more complete pain relief and faster post-operative recovery.

Please call us if you have any questions regarding the surgical procedures we offer or if you have any questions about our surgical protocols.

Great Online Reviews

"My two pups, Eli & Wyatt, standard parti poodles stay healthy in part because we give them good food, plenty of exercise & a lot of love and attention, BUT, to round out their care, we needed a great vet and we found the perfect place at Indian Creek Pet Hospital. My dogs love visiting ICPH even when they get poked with needles! ICPH keeps my dogs healthy and that keeps me happy!"
